Fiasco at my Dr. Appt Wednesday.

It is Friday and I am just now feeling up to posting about my Dr. Appt. from Wednesday. Someone set up the appointment for me, but failed to inform my local doctor what the appointment was for or what they needed.

My doctor had no notes sent over and we tried to fill in the blanks for him as best we could. They only had one person on staff qualified to change my gauze on the Picc Line.

Then there was the issue of the labs. They never sent over what labs they needed. My doctor tried calling several people for over an hour to find out any information with no success. He finally ordered a bunch of labs to be safe. Off to the lab I go and what a surprise, no one knows how to use the picc line to retrieve blood so they are poking and prodding to find a vein to get some.

By the time we left the doctor's office it was 12:30 and my appointment was at 9:00. I was so happy to get home and lay down at this point.

The only good thing that came out of this by Thursday we had it all figured out so now my doctor's office is informed for next week and my TPN bags are to be delivered today for the week.

In general, I am tired today and feel just a little bit nauseated.

I am hoping that I am way better in a month from now than I feel right now. Please keep up the prayers, I am doing better, but I am not out of the woods yet.

My Story

Growing up I was always thin and never had to worry about weight issues. I was lucky and thankful. My mother had always had weight issues. I recall being teased in school about having a fat mom. Back in the 1970's it was rare for people to be obese.

Kid's would yell out to me that I was going to be a whale just like my mom when I grew up. It wasn't really nice of them, but they didn't understand. I watched my mother suffer in silence and do the roller coaster with her weight from one diet to another. My mother developed diabetes in her late 30's and her weight loss efforts were all unsuccessful. She is still overweight today.

For me, I was quite the opposite. I had taken after my father at least for most of my life. I was never larger than a size 7, I had five children and was thin again in weeks. I was the woman other women hated. Ironic as it sounds, I was teased in childhood I would be fat when I grew up, and then I was despised by other women because I wasn't fat after I had children.

Then at age 42 I became pregnant with my sixth child. My pregnancy was great without complications other than I had developed gestational diabetes. I weighed 193lbs just prior to delivery and after a c-section I was down to 170 lbs. I didn't have too much to lose to get back down to size.

That is when the weigh gain began. I was tired all the time. I had no energy. I just kept gaining weight. Within a year of my daughters birth I now weighed my per-delivery weight.

What was going on? Not one doctor thought to check that my gestational diabetes had developed in type 2 diabetes after delivery.

I did the norm, I tried all the diets, not one worked. Then my doctor upon my request tested my sugar and was shocked to see it was 362, and confirmed what I was thinking all along. I was now diabetic and could not lose the weight and I was still gaining.

I started Metformin, but still no weight loss even after 9 months of taking it.

Since, it is too difficult to get any type of weight loss surgery in the United States, I have taken control of my life and I am going with the surgery in Mexico.

I have decided to use Roux en Y Gastric Bypass Surgery. This surgery also known as RNY has a 95% chance that I will no longer have diabetes and the weight loss is the bonus to me.
